P.K. Subban for Shea Weber: Trade Tree

The rare one-for-one star-defenseman swap of June 29, 2016 (Montreal's Shea Weber for Nashville's P.K. Subban), traced forward on both sides: Subban to New Jersey in 2019 (with the two second-round picks Nashville received re-routed into Bobby Brink, Egor Afanasyev, Alexander Campbell, and Marat Khusnutdinov), and Weber's contract flipped from Montreal to Vegas in 2022 for Evgenii Dadonov and then dumped to Arizona in 2023, with Vegas sending Weber plus a 2023 fifth-round pick (which Arizona used on Justin Kipkie) to Arizona for Dysin Mayo.

All six trades verified against NHL.com, Wikipedia draft/player pages, ESPN, PuckPedia trade pages, and On the Forecheck. No salary was retained in any of these transactions. Scope: this tree traces the two defensemen and the two second-round picks Nashville received for Subban, as instructed. Return assets not descended from those two picks are listed for completeness but not traced further: Steven Santini and Jeremy Davies (Nashville's other returns for Subban); Evgenii Dadonov (Montreal's return for Weber); Nick Bonino, Luke Kunin, and the No. 70 pick attached to the 2020 Bonino/Kunin trade; and Dysin Mayo (Vegas's return for Weber). Caveats: the No. 70 (2020) pick was Minnesota's own selection Nashville had acquired and returned, and after further out-of-tree trades Detroit used it on Eemil Viro. The Weber-for-Dadonov trade is dated June 16, 2022 per ESPN and NHLPA. Direct WebFetch of PuckPedia pages returned 403 and the NHL.com Coyotes release returned empty, but their contents are corroborated by ESPN, Wikipedia, and matching search-result summaries.
